Project Description

In 2021, the City Council hired the consulting firm RDG Planning & Design to begin designing renovations for the City Park. Proposed improvements are based on the findings of substantive community outreach, which culminated in the City Park Master Plan. Over the schematic design development process, several amendments to the 2021 City Park Master Plan endorsed by the Bondurant City Council have evolved. In 2022 the City Council endorsed the City Park Phase 2 Schematic Design.

Desin Sketches

What to Expect:

  • Flexible Food Truck Area with powered pedestals along the north
  • Tent Area (flex space) with street planters
  • Enhancing the existing open-air shelter, maintenance room, and restrooms
  • Splash Pad
  • A variety of playground equipment
  • Open Space
  • Basketball Court with seating and green buffer
  • Amphitheater
  • A second open-air shelter with storage and restrooms

Outdoor Recreation Products was hired as the playground vendor. The goal is to include play features designed for 2-5-year-olds, 5–12-year-olds, a sensory area, zip line, and swings. The discussion has evolved into the most inclusive design features the playground vendor can offer to allow the new play features to be used by park users of all abilities.

The City Council has suggested adding a larger water play area with an ice ribbon and angled parking along the west block to the plan and designing a formal phased construction schedule. In 2023 the City Council endorsed the City Park Schematic Design.

Brother's Concrete was hired for the demolition, construction, curb & gutter work, sidewalk, parking, grading, storm sewer intakes, and road patching. Construction began December 2023.

What More to Expect:

  • Ice Ribbon
  • Ice Maintenance building
  • Angled parking along the west

What to Expect During Construction

A Safe Work Site—We want you to be safe around the work site. Please keep children, pets, bikes, cars, and trucks away from the tools, machines, supplies, and construction workers.

Noise, Vibration, and Dust—Construction creates noise, vibration, and dust and disrupts normal neighborhood activity.

Traffic Delays—The work will slow down traffic in your neighborhood. Please read the traffic signs.

Access to Your Home—You will be able to go to your home, but you may not be able to park on the street during certain stages of the construction. We will try to make sure driveways and parking lot entrances stay open.

Parking Restrictions—We want you to be safe, so you might not be able to park your car next to the workspace, equipment, or materials. If crews are working directly in front of your home you may need to park in another location.

Equipment Storage—Sometimes we will leave tools, machines, and supplies on-site overnight. Please stay away from them.

Work Hours—Work hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (Code of Ordinances 53.02)

Schedule Changes and Inactivity—Our work schedules can change for many reasons like weather, traffic, and problems with tools, machines, or supplies. Sometimes we need to stop between different types of work and start again later.
