Garbage, Recycling and Yard Waste Disposal

Know your collection time

The City of Bondurant contracts with Ankeny Sanitation for solid waste pickup.

The carts must be out by 6 a.m. Wednesdays; the earlier your cart is out, the better. Setting your cart out the evening before your collection day is one way to make the cut, just make sure it's after 5 PM. Per city code, carts are only allowed curbside 12-hours prior to collection and must be promptly removed from the curb line following collection. Reference 105.10 Waste Storage Containers

Bondurant participates in the recycling program and collection is every other week on Wednesdays by Waste Management. Garbage and recycling billing is included in the monthly utility bill. Contact City Hall for your recycling schedule. If you have questions about what to put in your recycling, visit https://www.mwatoday.com/ or call 515-244-0021 the Metro Waste Authority staff is always happy to help!

Know your yard waste season

The City of Bondurant also participates in the Compost It! program for yard waste disposal with Ankeny Sanitation.  Yard waste is collected from the curb weekly during Compost It! season, on garbage collection day. There are three options to use the Bags and Stickers learn more about the options here www.cityofbondruant.com/services/pages/yard-waste-collection

Place your cart properly

When placing your cart at the curb, remember the three-foot rule. There should be three feet between other carts, yard waste bags, and structures (I.e., mailboxes, lawn ornaments, bushes). Make sure to place your cart within 18 inches of the curb, on a level surface, with the lid closed. The short metal bar on the cart should be facing the street.

Winter collection tips

In the winter months, collection can get messy! Seasonal weather can vary from day to day. Clear a place on your driveway for your cart on snowy days, and clear at least 18 inches around it to allow easy access. Make sure your cart isn’t on top of a snow mountain, or in the street, as this could be bad news for your driver.

Have more than can fit in your cart?

Whether you’re cleaning out your house, or making room for that new appliance or couch, sometimes you need to get rid of things that don’t fit in your cart. The good news is you can still get rid of those large or extra items curbside with the large and extra item sticker program.

There are two ways to purchase large/extra item stickers. If you want to shop in your pjs, try purchasing stickers online and have them shipped to your home. https://www.mwatoday.com/waste-recycling/garbage/extra-trash-large-items/

If you’re already out and about, try purchasing stickers at a Bondurant City Hall! Stickers are sold from the front desk.

How Many Stickers Do You Need?

The larger the item, the more it costs to get it gone. Review the list of the common items here: https://www.mwatoday.com/waste-recycling/garbage/extra-trash-large-items/
