Becoming a Member
The mission of Bondurant Emergency Services is to minimize loss of life, property and the environment from fires, natural disasters, life threatening situations, and to assist other emergency agencies.
In addition to responding to fire, motor vehicle accidents, and other emergencies, Bondurant Emergency Services provide 911 advance life support emergency medical services transport to more than 20,000 people in northeastern Polk County. Fire-Medics work as a team to provide quality patient care and member safety. We currently have two 2018 ambulances and one 2012 ambulance stocked with the most current state-of-the-art advanced life support equipment. The firefighting resources include one rescue pumper, two pumper/tenders, one 100’ Bronto Tower/truck, one ultra-high pressure tactical unit and one ultra-high pressure rapid response command unit. Bondurant Emergency Services has a close working relationship with mutual aid partners to provide quality responses in a wide range of responses. In 2022, Bondurant Emergency Services responded to more than 1000 calls. BES is currently staffed as a combination department with thirty members (full, part-time and Paid Per Call).
Part-time candidates will have experience in both fire and EMS. Three years of EMS experience preferred, as a Paramedic (NREMT) with current certification in ACLS, BCLS and PALS, and an unrestricted Iowa Chauffer’s (Class D) license are required. Firefighter 1 certification along with Hazardous Material Operations is preferred. Paid Per Call (PPC) candidates we will work with you to achieve your certifications. It is essential that all candidates can read, write, and speak the English language. All candidates will undergo a pre-employment background check, physical, and drug screen.
Part-time Fire-Medics can expect a sign-up type shift schedule of 20 hours minimum and up to 30 hours per workweek with a minimum of one weekend shift requirement per pay period (every two weeks). PPC can expect a sign-up type shift schedule for a minimum of 18 hours a week with working a weekend shift during the month.
