Bondurant Emergency Services has a close working relationship with our mutual aid partners to provide quality resources in a wide range of responses.  In 2021, Bondurant Emergency Services responded to more than 800 calls, with an increase in calls every year.  BES is currently staffed with one full-time Chief, two full-time Assistant Chief, two full-time Fire-Medics, three part-time Fire-Medics, eight part-time firefighter/EMTs, one part-time Administrative Assistant, six paid-per-call Firefighter/EMT, and nine paid-per-call Firefighters.  The BES team works together to provide quality patient care, fire prevention, and suppression while maintaining members’ safety.  We currently utilize two 2018 ambulances and one 2012 ambulance stocked with progressive technology in BLS and ALS equipment.  The firefighting resources comprise the newest technology tools and equipment, one rescue pumper, two pumper/tenders, the only 100’ Bronto Tower/truck in Polk County, one ultra-high pressure tactical unit, and a one-of-a-kind ultra-high pressure rapid response command unit.

The duties include supporting the fire department's mission in firefighting, emergency medical services, community risk reduction, training, and other duties as they arise.  Fire-Medics are not limited to only EMS; they will function as frontline firefighters providing the initial response to fires.

Potential part-time candidates should have experience in both fire and EMS.  Three years of EMS experience is preferred, with current certifications as a Paramedic (NREMT) with ACLS and BLS certification a plus.  A Firefighter 1 certification along with Hazardous Material Operations is preferred but training to the level of or a willingness to take Firefighter 1 class is acceptable and will be encouraged.  An unrestricted Iowa Chauffer’s (Class D) license is required, or a CDL with airbrake endorsement is preferred.  It is essential the candidate can read, write, and speak the English language proficiently.  The candidate must pass the Central Iowa Testing Consortium written exam and undergo a pre-employment background check, physical, and drug screen.

Part-time Fire-Medics can expect a self-sign-up shift schedule comprising a minimum of 20 hours a week with the potential for up to 30 hours per week offered.  A minimum of at least one-weekend shift will be required per pay period (every two weeks).  BES offers competitive pay with a base starting at $15.06 to $25.34 depending on experience and current certifications.

Paid-Per-Call receives a stipend for calls run and for being on call.  PPC can self-sign up for a minimum of 18 hours a week and at least 16 hours a month of weekend hours.  If PPC candidates do not have certifications, they have two years to complete their Firefighter 1 class and EMT class, which BES will reimburse for.  If PPC candidates do not live in town, they can still be a part of BES and just have to stay at the station when they are on call.
