Congratulations Jill Sanders being nominated for the American Library Association’s Award

Jill Sanders

The I Love My Librarian Award honors librarians across the country for their effort to improve the lives of people in their community. They are recognized for their accomplishments as exceptional librarians. The philanthropic foundation Carnegie Corporation of New York and the New York Public Library generously sponsor the I Love My Library Award. The American Library Association (ALA) administers the award.

Here is the nomination:

Where do I start? The last 18 months have been a challenge, to say the least. Our library has been under construction, adding new spaces and expanding due to our growing community. Throw in a pandemic and our library had every reason to close. It didn’t! Our librarian and staff made sure that the community had access to programming, hot spots for internet service, and books. Other libraries in our area closed down. Ours stayed open with curbside pickup and even delivery for the older community or at risk in our area. When everything was closing down around us, the library was open. Even during the biggest part of the construction, we only had to close a handful of times for the safety of the librarians and patrons.

Keeping the library open helped us keep a small bit of normalcy in our weeks. I cannot imagine the amount of stress and uncertainty our library staff went through. I know I can speak for the library regulars; we are thankful for all of the hard work and dedication put forth. It made a rough year so much brighter for those of us who frequent the library.

Great job to Jill and all of our dedicated Bondurant Community Library Staff!
