The City of Bondurant, Iowa, is proud to announce its recent accolades, as it has been honored with two prestigious awards from the Iowa Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA). The awards, the Resilience & Sustainability Award for the Central District Stormwater Improvements Master Plan and the Urban Design Award for the Civic Campus Master Plan, underscore the city's dedication to forward-thinking and sustainable urban planning.

The Central District Stormwater Improvements Master Plan, initiated in late 2021, marked a significant milestone in Bondurant's commitment to enhancing its community's resilience. This multi-phased project began with SmithGroup as a key partner. The first phase encompassed preliminary site analysis and data gathering, extensive public input, and a series of public meetings that culminated in a comprehensive summary of feedback, drafted goals and objectives, and programming recommendations, all shared with the Parks and Recreation Board. The plan for Central District Stormwater Improvements will introduce a natural environment for a new regional park, that includes a lake that will address stormwater retention and promote better water quality. The City Council adopted the Master Plan late in 2022, setting the stage for a more resilient and sustainable future for Bondurant.

In addition to the Resilience & Sustainability Award, Bondurant also received recognition, receiving the Urban Design Award for the Civic Campus Master Plan. This six-month planning initiative was meticulously guided by a Steering Committee, with invaluable contributions from SVPA Architects, Confluence, and Kirkham Michael. Throughout the planning process, the consultant team collaborated closely with the Civic Campus Master Plan Steering Committee to develop concepts that are now an integral part of this visionary plan.

The Civic Campus, as envisioned in the master plan, will host Emergency Services, Public Works, Law Enforcement, City Hall, and a space reserved for future civic purposes. Furthermore, there are additional lots earmarked for potential private development. The thoughtful actions taken in crafting the Civic Campus Master Plan highlight Bondurant's commitment to urban design excellence, creating a dynamic and efficient community hub to serve its residents for generations to come.

These awards represent not only the City of Bondurant's commitment to building a more sustainable and resilient community but also its dedication to creating a vibrant and attractive urban environment. Bondurant's vision for the future is grounded in values of collaboration, community engagement, and a drive for consistent betterment of quality of life for the city's residents.

The City of Bondurant expresses its gratitude for the recognition from the Iowa Chapter of the American Planning Association and looks forward to the continued pursuit of excellence in urban planning.
