The mission of Bondurant Emergency Services (BES) is to minimize loss of life, property, and the environment from fires, natural disasters, life-threatening situations, and to assist other emergency agencies.

In addition to responding to fire, motor vehicle accidents, and other emergencies, Bondurant Emergency Services provides 911 advance life support emergency medical services transport to more than 20,000 people in northeastern Polk County.  Fire-Medics work as a team to provide quality patient care and member safety.  We currently have two 2018 ambulances and one 2012 ambulance stocked with the most current state-of-the-art advanced life support equipment.  The firefighting resources include one rescue pumper, two pumper/tenders, one 100’ Bronto Tower/truck, one ultra-high pressure tactical unit, and one ultra-high pressure rapid response command unit.  Bondurant Emergency Services has a close working relationship with mutual aid partners to provide quality service in a wide range of responses.  In 2022, Bondurant Emergency Services responded to more than 1,000 calls. BES is currently staffed as a combination department with thirty members (full, part-time, and Paid Per Call).

Paid Per Call (PPC) candidates that have no certification (fire, EMS) we will work with you to get you into classes to achieve your certifications.  It is essential that all candidates can read, write, and speak the English language.  All candidates will undergo a pre-employment background check, physical, and drug screen.

PPC can expect to be able to sign up for their shifts on the schedule for a minimum of 18 hours a week while working a weekend shift during the month. There is also the option of working 16 hours on the weekend and fulfilling the schedule requirements.  PPC members who do not live in the city of Bondurant will need to stay at the station when on shift.

All potential candidates will need to take and pass the Central Iowa Fire and EMS test through the Consortium: find more details at https://www.dmacc.edu/programs/fire/consortium/Pages/welcome2.aspx

Applications are available online, at Bondurant City Hall (200 2nd Street NE) or at the Bondurant Public Safety Building (101 Grant Street N) 0800 – 1700.  The application can be turned into BES as well.
