Mayor Doug Elrod Shares Insights on Bondurant's Remarkable Progress

[BONDURANT, IA — November 2, 2023] Mayor Doug Elrod of Bondurant, Iowa, recently sat down for an exclusive interview on the Iowa Podcast to discuss the city's exceptional growth while maintaining its beloved hometown charm. Over the years, Bondurant has experienced a 91% population increase, making it one of the fastest-growing communities in Iowa. This growth has led to several exciting developments and opportunities for both current and prospective residents.

In the interview, Mayor Elrod touched on several key topics, including the factors driving Bondurant's growth, the city's commitment to reducing property taxes, and the influx of newcomers from various regions.

He noted that while many areas have seen property valuations surge, Bondurant's strategic approach has been to pass pay raises to residents through property tax reductions. Since 2017, the city has successfully reduced property taxes by nearly 19%, achieving the largest tax reduction in Bondurant's history just a few years ago. Mayor Elrod emphasized that the city recognizes that the tax dollars belong to its residents and is committed to returning them to the community.

When it comes to the demographic of those moving to Bondurant, the median age in the city is 31 years old, indicating a younger population. The city is witnessing an influx of young families and individuals starting their own families. While this growth may be partly attributed to remote work opportunities, Mayor Elrod highlighted the importance of available land and proximity to the metro area as significant factors.

In response to the rising population and feedback from residents, Bondurant has embarked on a multi-phased plan to enhance the City Park, preserving the cherished hometown atmosphere while introducing new amenities. Plans include the addition of a splash pad, expanded playground equipment, updated basketball courts, an amphitheater for community gatherings, and an innovative ice ribbon.

The ice ribbon, a unique feature, is designed to offer a year-round outdoor skating experience. The 382-linear-foot ice ribbon, set to be installed in future phases, will allow residents to enjoy ice skating during the winter months. This innovative feature distinguishes Bondurant's park from traditional ice rinks and promises a versatile space for families to gather, even during the summer months. In addition to the ice ribbon, the park will also feature a food truck station, contributing to the park's overall appeal.

Bondurant is committed to maintaining its "hometown feel" while creating opportunities for community growth and enjoyment. The multi-phased approach to the City Park's development, including the ice ribbon, reflects the city's dedication to meeting the evolving needs and desires of its residents.

Mayor Elrod invited prospective residents to reach out and explore what Bondurant has to offer, emphasizing the community's pride in connecting with people.
