Bondurant Community Celebrate the Expansion of the Bondurant Community Library with a Ribbon Cutting

Even Miss Iowa came to celebrate! Recently a ribbon-cutting was hosted at the Bondurant Community Library to mark the end of a long construction season, but the start of a new future for this book fortress. The library building originally was 7,239 SF, and now the library is a total of 14,610 SF. The library’s addition is thanks to the recent Local Option Sales Tax that was voted on by the voters in Bondurant in August 2019. Believe it or not, this library building is over 12 years old. The staff members at the library are so excited about the expansion and are very grateful to all the library visitors because they are the ones that made this project possible!

The Bondurant Library enhancements include a dedicated teen area, two new conference rooms for smaller meetings and study groups, a dedicated maker space (a space used for programming, crafting, sewing, etc.) and children’s area, and a second entrance leading to a larger community room that can be divided into two smaller rooms. The circulation desk received a new facelift and the plan included updated paint and flooring throughout.

This project doubled the size of the library. This means a little more of everything – more books, more seating, more computers, more study rooms, more meeting room space, more storage, and more staff workspace.

The Bondurant Community Library Foundation is a nonprofit organization with the mission to support, improve and enhance the Bondurant Community Library that has been putting the final touches on the library enhancements. A wonderful example is, how one donor made it possible for the library to install a piece of artwork by Bondurant local artist Chris Vance. Many other opportunities exist as well, if you would like to make a donation to the Foundation for the benefit of the library, please contact the Foundation.

This project continued even with adversity caused by the global pandemic, the library staff continued operations with construction and library service. The library also served the Bondurant-Farrar school district by offering several hotspots that were used by families in need of internet access when families did schoolwork from home. The library staff worked diligently to offer curbside delivery, contact-free home delivery, and one-person-only appointments for computer usage at the library, plus keeping all contact surface areas clean.

Needless to say, the ribbon-cutting hosted on September 23, 2021, was a large celebration because of the hard work put into this enhancement over the past year.
