The Bondurant Parks and Recreation Department, in collaboration with RDG Planning and Design, is thrilled to announce the groundbreaking event for the eagerly anticipated renovation of Bondurant City Park. The event is scheduled to take place on Monday, November 20, 2023, at 4:30 PM, at 201 Main Street SE, Bondurant, Iowa 50035.

The Bondurant City Park renovation project, set to be implemented in phases beginning in 2023, is a result of extensive public engagement and collaboration with RDG Planning and Design. The proposed design plan, with several amendments to the endorsed 2021 City Park Master Plan, aims to enhance the park's features and cater to the diverse recreational needs of the community.

Key Features of the Proposed Design Plan Include:

  • Enhanced all-inclusive playground structures
  • Newly constructed basketball court with seating and green buffer
  • Open-air shelter
  • Mature trees and sustainable open green space
  • Flexible Food Truck Area
  • Tent Area (flex space)
  • Splash Pad
  • Amphitheater
  • Ice Ribbon and Ice Maintenance building
  • Angled parking along the west

The playground equipment, provided by Outdoor Recreation Products, is designed for users of all abilities, including play features for 2-5-year-olds, 5–12-year-olds, a sensory area, zip line, and swings, fostering inclusivity in the park.

Construction is set to commence this month, November 2023, and continue until Summerfest 2024, with a pause during the community festival and recommencement shortly after. The phased construction schedule includes:

  • Stage One: Site Preparation Plan and Streetscapes
  • Stage Two: Playground Design and Installation
  • Stage Three: SPLASH (and coordination with ICE)

The preliminary schedule is subject to change, and additional phases will be released as the next stage of construction is established.

During the construction period, residents and park visitors are advised to expect changes in traffic patterns, temporary parking restrictions, and the presence of construction equipment and materials. The City Council emphasizes the importance of safety around the work site, encouraging residents to keep children, pets, bikes, cars, and trucks away from construction areas.
