April is "Keep Iowa Beautiful Month." Please help us keep our City tidy and celebrate Earth Day TOGETHER! Community projects during this month encourage Iowans to build pride and respect in making their communities better places to live and work through beautification, clean-up, and recycling activities.

Pre-registration is required for ALL participants. You can build your team first, then the team leader can submit registration for everyone, but you must list ALL volunteers in the team. Register here

Prizes will be awarded for the following:

  1. Show us your Team Spirit ... wear a team t-shirt, costumes, or anything to show you've got SPIRIT!    
  2. Earn the Bigg Buttowski for most cigarette butts collected.
  3. Snap a pic of your Best Selfie or show us your unique find for the Finders Keepers recognition. 
  4. Ye Olde Bag recognition can be won by collecting plastic grocery bags.

Join us as we take pride in our community and beautify the City we all know and love on Saturday, April 22nd! Grab some friends, family, neighbors, and "Team Up to Clean Up" along the Chichaqua Valley Trail, Lake Petocka, Bondurant City Campus, Gateway Park, Gay Lea Wilson Trail, and other community parks!

  • Check-in at Bondurant City Hall at 8:30 AM to collect some needed supplies. Casey's General Store has donated breakfast pizza, which will be on-site for all to enjoy.
  • Bring your own tools for the event. Some supplies will be offered onsite if necessary. Supplies are on a first come first serve basis.
  • While participating in the Keep Bondu Beautiful event wear appropriate apparel, which includes gloves, thick-soled, closed-toe shoes, long pants, and long-sleeved shirts, and consider bright-colored shirts for roadside cleanups.
  • Wear sunscreen and/or bug repellent.
  • Drink lots of fluids.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and the potential hazards associated with them.
  • Use the “buddy system” and work in two or more teams to maximize safety.
  • Wash hands with soap after the cleanup.
  • Bag litter according to direction from Team Leader and place in designated locations.
  • Remember to take breaks when needed.
  • Don’t pick up hazardous materials.
  • Please, do not overstuff bags.
  • Don’t enter the water if doing a waterway cleanup.
  • Don’t attempt to move large, bulky, or heavy objects.
  • Report any illegal dumping, graffiti, tires, and bulk items to the event coordinator and

What to Expect on the Day of the Clean-Up:

  • 9:00 AM the Kick-off Bash will begin in Bondurant City Hall’s atrium. Start by dividing into teams. Each member signs in and receive a limited supply of tools.
  • 9:15 AM - 9:30 AM the teams will be announced, and the logistics will be shared along with a printed map. 
  • Teams are then assigned to the designated clean-up area.  Lake Petocka (requires a large group), Chichaqua Valley Trail East of the City Campus, Chichaqua Valley Trail West of the City Campus, the City Campus, the Bondurant Regional Trailhead, the Gay Lea Wilson Trail to Gateway Park, Gateway Park, City Park, (add more? it will depend on how many people sign up). Here is the preliminary map.
  • 11:00 AM all teams meet back at Bondurant City Hall to drop off supplies and sign out.
