Utility Rate Changes
Upcoming Utility Rate Adjustments
Beginning July 1, 2026, residents will see adjustments to water, sewer, garbage, and recycling utility rates. These changes are necessary to support ongoing infrastructure investments and increased regional service costs.
A portion of these increases reflects “pass-through costs” from regional utility partners and service providers. These are costs charged to the City for water, wastewater treatment, and waste services that must be incorporated into utility rates.
Water Rate Changes
Water rates are increasing due to:
- Continued investment in Bondurant’s new Water Treatment Facility, expected to open in late 2027
- A multi-year rate schedule approved by the City Council in 2023
- Increased costs from Des Moines Water Works, including a 10% rate increase and an additional $300,000 fee
For a typical household using 4,373 gallons of water per month, the estimated increase is approximately $5.16 per month.
Sewer Rate Changes
Sewer rates are increasing because of:
- Updated cost calculations based on water usage
- Regional wastewater system improvement projects led by the Wastewater Reclamation Authority (WRA)
These improvements are funded through long-term infrastructure investments shared by participating communities.
The average residential sewer bill is expected to increase by approximately $9.05 per month beginning July 1, 2026.
Garbage & Recycling Rate Changes
Garbage and recycling rates are increasing due to higher service costs from the Metro Waste Authority (MWA), which negotiates regional waste collection contracts for participating communities.
Residents can expect an increase of approximately $0.52 per month on residential bills.
