New Fireworks Ordinance in Effect for 2025: What You Need to Know Before You Celebrate

fireworks update

As we head into another season of summer celebrations and patriotic fun, the City of Bondurant wants to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience. On June 2, 2025, the City Council approved updates to our local fireworks ordinance to align with recent changes in state law and address community safety concerns. Here’s what every Bondurant resident should know about the new rules.

When Can You Use Fireworks in Bondurant?

Under the new ordinance, consumer fireworks may only be used during the following times:

July 3: From 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM

July 4: From 9:00 AM to 11:00 PM

December 31: From 9:00 AM to 12:30 AM on January 1

These dates and times are the only periods during which fireworks are legally permitted in the City of Bondurant. Discharging fireworks outside of these windows is a violation of city ordinance and may result in a fine.

Important Safety Restrictions

To promote safety and respect for all residents, the ordinance includes several important limitations:

Age Restriction: Fireworks may only be used by individuals aged 18 and older, unless directly supervised by a parent or guardian.

Property Use: Fireworks may only be discharged on your own property or on private property with written permission from the owner. Use on school grounds, public streets, sidewalks, and city parks is strictly prohibited unless specifically authorized by permit.

Prohibited Devices: Aerial shell kits and reloadable tubes are not allowed within city limits. Sky lanterns are only permitted if securely tethered and under the user's control.

Clean-Up Required: Fireworks users are responsible for cleaning up any debris, including anything that lands on neighboring or public property. If your fireworks affect someone else's property, you are required to contact the property owner and coordinate cleanup.

Violations and Enforcement

Failure to follow these rules can result in a fine of no less than $250 per violation. Enforcement will be taken seriously to protect public safety and maintain the peace and enjoyment of our community during the holidays.

Stay Safe and Celebrate Responsibly - The City of Bondurant encourages all residents to celebrate safely and considerately. By following these updated guidelines, we can all enjoy the festivities while respecting our neighbors and protecting our community.
