Questions about fraud? Click on the link to get directed to the Iowa Attorney General's website. Under the heading "Consumer Tips & Information," be sure to click on the "Brochures" link, which contains several articles about identity theft and using credit reports, and the link to the article, "How to Avoid Becoming a Victim of Identity Theft and What to do if You Think You May Be a Victim." Citizens are able to file formal complaints online and staff will investigate. The Division's hotline is also an excellent place for consumers to get quick advice about how to proceed when faced with possible fraudulent practices. It's an interesting website to explore and very informative.

Protecting Consumers

The Consumer Protection Division of the Iowa Attorney General's Office used to provide this type of programming around the state, but now lacks the resources to conduct such a service. Certainly, though, there is no other government agency so dedicated to preventing, fighting and prosecuting consumer frauds than the Attorney General's Office.
