To be prepared for the coronavirus (COVID-19), the City of Bondurant is working with local, state, and federal partners. City administration has worked with each City department to develop a plan to ensure the continuation of essential services. 

The plan of action is evolving and more information will be published here.  

We will post any updates to this page on the City’s website as well as the City’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.

City Facilities (Updated May 6, 2020)

CITY OFFICES CLOSE TO GENERAL PUBLIC IN EFFORT TO PREVENT SPREAD OF COVID-19
In an effort to implement social distancing practices recommended to slow the spread of COVID-19, the City of Bondurant offices, including Public Works, City Hall, Bondurant Emergency Services, and Bondurant Community Library will all be closed to the public effective Thursday, March 19. While these facilities are closed to walk-in traffic, City services will continue to be provided by City departments with customer service needs being either handled online, via email or by phone.

Administration will reassess the situation on a regular basis and will inform the public when facilities reopen. Click here for the phased reopening plan.

If you are unable to find what you need on the website, you may email info@cityofbondurant.com or call 515-967-2418 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Public Work staff hours are 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. 

Utility Billing Department

The Utility Billing Department will now accept all new resident applications, utility bill payments or inquiries, etc. electronically.  New Resident forms are available at www.cityofbondurant.com/utilities-department/pages/new-residents, and can be emailed to bfairchild@cityofbondurant.com, then deposits can be submitted at www.municipalonlinepayments.com/bondurantia.  At the present time, all utility bill payments and amount due can be available at www.municipalonlinepayments.com/bondurantia or you are urged to call before visiting city hall 515-630-6988. 

The Utility Billing division also offers various alternatives to paying bills in person:

  • Drop payments in the dropbox located outside just southeast of the City Hall entrance. This is available 24/7. If you are not able to leave exact change the extra payment will be credited to your account.
  • Mail your payment to Bondurant City Hall at 200 2nd St NE, Bondurant, IA 50035.
  • Customers can set up recurring auto-payments or pay online with a credit card as well.
  • Water disconnect for unpaid utility bills will be suspended until further notice.

Payment plans are available for those that are experiencing troubling times. Call city hall for more details at 515-630-6988.

Garbage and Recycling (Updated May 15, 2020)

Waste Management and Ankeny Sanitation maintain a standard collection schedule for trash and recycling, and they are not experiencing any collection interruptions. 

Hazardous Waste Drop-off in Bondurant and Grimes

Due to the current public health recommendations, Metro Waste Authority is suspending hazardous waste drop-off in Bondurant and Grimes. These may include things such as batteries, solvents, paints, fertilizer, and light bulbs.>> LEARN MORE

To continue providing a safe, smart option for responsible hazardous waste disposal, Metro Waste Authority has expanded its house side collection program. If a resident chooses a house-side collection of hazardous waste, the cost is $25 for two 12-gallon bins and one large bag. Container deliveries and pick-ups are scheduled as requested.

Public Meetings

Meetings will continue as scheduled, but social distancing guidelines will be followed and the use of Zoom is encouraged. If a public hearing is on the agenda, the public is encouraged to email or submit comment prior to the meeting and all comments will be reviewed. 

Building Department

The Building Department accepts all building permits, trade permits, etc. electronically.  Permit forms are available at www.cityofbondurant.com/building-department/pages/building-permit-applications, and can be emailed to info@cityofbondurant.com.  At the present time, all building inspections will continue as normal and can be scheduled by calling 515-850-2980.

Parks and Shelters (Updated March 30,2020)

All parks are open for your general use but do continue to practice social distancing while enjoying the outdoor space and trails. At this time, shelters and events are canceled, but City staff will monitor and reassess the facilities as needed. Park restrooms are still closed for the season. Effective March 30, 2020, at 8:30 p.m. playground equipment and shelter houses in all city parks, as well as the basketball court (in City Park), is closed until further notice. >> read more

City Event and Program Cancellations (Updated May 15, 2020)

The City of Bondurant wants to ensure the safety of our residents and the City Staff. Future events will be evaluated and updates will be provided when determined.

Bondurant Emergency Services

The Bondurant Emergency Services Department continues to take calls for service. The department has added extra decontamination efforts to their protocols.

Public responders are taking extra precautions, including:

  • The vehicle interior and equipment will be decontaminated after each call for service.
  • Responders are using extra precautions after any interaction/transaction with patients.

While we must ensure we are keeping our community safe, the safety of our staff and first responders is a top priority as well. 

Polk County Sheriffs' Office

Our local law enforcement is taking necessary precautions. Services are operational as normal. Call the non-emergency number at 515-286-3333 for law enforcement needs. 

Public Health Resources

If you are in need of additional assistance during this troubling time, know that there are resources. Are you in need of daycare assistance, pharmacy visits, doctor visits, or utility assistance? Visit Polk County Human Services for help or call Bondurant City Hall 515-967-2418.

Everyone reacts differently to stressful situations. When do you need help? When symptoms associated with your anxiety have affected your ability to function in some part of your life, it's time to reach out. Reach out to your healthcare provider and discuss your concerns. Many insurers are covering telehealth for mental health services at this time. Use the website www.yourlifeiowa.org for information on mental health. Unemployment Insurance Benefits

If you are a worker who has been impacted by COVID-19 closures, you may be eligible for unemployment. If you have questions about your eligibility call 866-239-0843 or email  uiclaimshelp@iwd.iowa.gov. You can file for unemployment benefits online at www.iowaworkforcedevelopment.gov.

We encourage residents and businesses to utilize trusted sources of public health information, such as the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH).
