Bondurant Community Library Renovation honored by 1,000 Friends of Iowa

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
1,000 Friends of Iowa Award

At a ceremony on January 24, 2023, the Bondurant Community Library, the design/construction team, and other city supporters were presented with a 2023 Best Development Award for the library renovation and expansion project. The Best Development Awards recognizes projects in 12 categories as a way for 1000 Friends of Iowa to showcase that smart land use, and sustainable communities are more than constructed buildings.

The Bondurant Community Library began expanding in 2020 to increase the library collection's size and community meeting space. Green building practices were a priority during the project. The expanded parking lot includes permeable pavers to help mitigate stormwater run-off. The permeable pavers allow water to infiltrate around and/or through the surface into the rock below and, eventually, into the soil. This water movement helps to filter out pollutants and can reduce flooding. In the winter, permeable pavers can reduce the need for road salt because the melting snow drains more easily from the hardscape, reducing the re-freezing process.

Congratulations to the Bondurant Community Library on their New Civic Award and beautiful building.
