2nd Street N And Grant Street Intersection Improvements

Project Description: 

The project will consist of the design of left-turn lanes on all four approaches of the intersection, adjust pedestrian ramps as required to make or maintain ADA compliant status, review drainage for this area and make local accommodations, consult or assist in a minimum of one public meeting with residents, meet and coordinate with utility companies as present in the corridor (overhead and underground) and prepare easements for securement. 

Project Status:

Bid Opening took place July 2020.

Monday, August 10th update:

Starting Monday, August 10th, 2020 (Weather Permitting) work will begin on the Intersection of 2nd St. NE/NW and Grant St. N for the addition of left-turn lanes in all four directions of travel.

 

Phase 1 of the project will consist of underground stormwater utility work and the addition of approximately 6-feet of subbase and roadway along the current shoulder of the road in all four corners of the intersection. This work will take place during the next couple of weeks. Phase 1 will take place while the intersection remains open to traffic. There may be temporary lane closures and flaggers controlling traffic from time to time.

Phase 2 will consist of a 3-inch milling of the entire roadway in the intersection followed by a new 3-inch asphalt overlay of the entire intersection, including the added pieces for the additional turn lanes. Most of this work will be able to be accomplished under traffic.

Starting Friday, October 2nd and Saturday, October 3rd, 2020 (Weather Permitting) the paving contractor will be working in the intersection of 2nd St. NW and Grant St. They will be milling the asphalt roadway, paving the added shoulders for the new turn lanes, and laying a 3-inch finish layer on the intersection. This work is scheduled during the day. There will be temporary detours put in place Friday, October 2 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, October 3 from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. We ask motorists and pedestrians to please be aware of the roadwork taking place and give themselves extra time to navigate through this corridor and the detour.
