Planning and Community Development

The Planning & Community Development Department participates in all matters associated with the growth and development of the City. The Department is involved in the use, location, regulation, design, construction, quality, and occupancy of all buildings and private properties. The Department enforces the City’s adopted Zoning, Subdivision, and Sign Codes. The Department is tasked with overseeing both current development and long-range planning. The Department guides applicants through the development review process. It facilitates obtaining approvals from the respective bodies, including the City Council, Planning & Zoning Commission, and the Board of Adjustment. Another key role of the Department is the maintenance and update of the Comprehensive Plan and Zoning, Subdivision, and Side Codes. The Comprehensive Plan provides a long-range vision for the City. In contrast, the Zoning Code provides the regulation and details for using buildings and physical development to bring the vision to reality.
