Parks and Recreation Update

By: Carol Bousselot, Admin. Assistant
Date Published: Thursday, December 09, 2010

There have been many recent Parks and Recreation updates! There are brand new events and activities, webpage updates, Facebook updates on our Official Facebook Page, a new electronic events newsletter (the "Bondurant Bounce"), and even a new Recreation Coordinator, Dustin, was recently added to our staff to help facilitate programs and events. Our Parks and Recreation Board has been very busy with new event ideas, park improvements, future planning, and in working with our Recreation Coordinator to provide these updates for the City of Bondurant.

One of our new events was the Holiday Tree Lighting (December 4th), that many people in town enjoyed. Santa took time out of his busy holiday season to stop by to see the tree and the crafts at the Library, with a ride from the Bondurant Fire Dept. (since his sled is being readied for Christmas). Don Newby donated the tree to the City. Please click here to read a summary of the event from the Recreation Coordinator. Photos are available on our Facebook page (click here for a direct link). The Holiday Tree Lighting will be an annual event during the holiday season, in case you were not able to make it to the event in 2010.

If you haven't visited the Parks and Recreation webpage yet, or haven't looked at it in a while, please click here for a direct link to take a glance. This page will be updated throughout the year with more events, and you can also sign up to receive e-mails with our electronic newsletter, The Bondurant Bounce, by e-mailing Dustin at
ddelvaux@cityofbondurant.com. The Bondurant Bounce will gladly include any City-wide events held in Bondurant, so please also contact Dustin if you would like an event added to the "Bondurant Bounce" as it is a community e-newsletter.

These are some of the upcoming Parks and Recreation activities:
Bondurant Tour of Lights - December 18, 2010.  Meet at City Hall at 5:00 p.m.  Bus will leave at 5:30 p.m. for the tour.  Prizes will be awarded to the top 5 best decorated houses in Bondurant that are participating as a “stop” in the tour. Only a few homes have signed up to be "stops" so far, so the chances are pretty good to win a prize! Contact Dustin to get signed up!
Cribbage Tournament - January 30, 2011. $10 Entry Fee for the round-robin tournament in the Community Room at City Hall, with prizes for the top three players. Check in starts at 1:00 p.m.  Register on or before Thursday, January 27.  Players must be over age 14 to be eligible for entry in the competition.
Basketball-Adult Open Gym - Sundays from 3:00-5:00 pm (November 7-December 26). Sundays from 3:00-4:30 p.m. (January 2-March 27).
Valentine's Day Dance - February 12, 2011, from 9 p.m. until closing (2 a.m.), at Cory's Irish Pub. Dance will be for adults ages 21 and older, and it will be a formal occasion.
Adult Volleyball - Starts on February 13, 2011. Sunday nights this winter and spring. Fee is $5 per person per night OR a one-time $25 fee for the entire season.

You may have noticed our holiday postings around town for these upcoming activities. Make sure to also check the calendar of events on our website often to find fun things to do in town. If you have an upcoming event, please contact Carol at City Hall, 967-2418, to request your event be added to the City calendar with approval of the City Administrator.

Please let us know what you think about our current activities! We are always looking for ideas for possible activities, volunteers for events, and input on our current activities. Feel free to come to any Parks and Recreation meeting, or contact our Recreation Coordinator, Dustin, at 967-2418 or ddelvaux@cityofbondurant.com.
