PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING CONTRACT AWARDED

Bids on a revised Public Safety Building were opened on December 13.  The low base bid of $707,300 was submitted by Jensen Builders of Ames.  Five alternates which would add $60,200 to the base amount were also bid.  The City Council awarded the contract including the five alternate items to Jensen Builders at its December 17 meeting.  Total cost for the building with alternates is $767,500.  Architect fees, site preparation and other costs bring the total allocated to the project as of the bid award date to $902,500.  The amount allocated to the project through the referendum is $950,000.  As of the bid award date, there was no specific plan as to how the $47,500 of unallocated funds would be used.
